We all believe something...
Ask yourself this question? What do I believe in? Why?
If we were truly honest with ourselves we would see that we all "Believe" in something. Friends, Working out, Job, Family, or maybe you believe in your Dog. Think about this however, those things are temporal. When we pass away from this Earth we will leave all these things behind. The only way to have stability and comfort in certainty and steadfastness is by truly believing the Word of God. When we start to look at the Bible we find ourselves challenged and questioning our life. We find ourselves coming at odds with all that "Feels" natural and comfortable for us. Good! What is a life without challenging ideas? The Bible is Instruction, teaching, discipline and the most beautiful story of redemption mankind has ever encountered.
We must choose everyday to believe the Bible as truth.
So people say they don't want to believe in Jesus. Let me examine why that might be the case. Is it because they don't want to admit they can't do it on their own... The concept so foreign that perhaps we as mere mortal humans might need Jesus. Everyone uses something for support, something to ease the calamities of a daily life on Earth. Think about it. What do you use to keep you sane? Does it work? Is it truly working?
I used everything and everyone around me to ease my pain. To mask the truth. The truth that I NEED JESUS. What a blessing to have come to that realization. A blessing from the Holy Spirit.
The big gaping hole in my heart and soul longed for something to fit. Something to completely fill it up. I tried filling it up with everything and in my journey I have found that ONLY JESUS can. Not just some generic version of the creator, "Higher Power", but Jesus. Not drugs, Not sex, Not my love of music, Not my love of my friends or family members. Jesus, and my relationship to him. What it means and looks like to live and Love and serve an Almighty God. I can now Love my family and friends more than I have ever before. With the Love I have been shown in a man who sacrificed himself for me to truly LIVE.
Some people find it's easier to say "Higher Power," instead of saying Jesus or God.
Why is it so easy for someone to adopt this "Higher Power" belief instead of seeing the real Truth of Jesus? I hear things like, It makes me feel more comfortable not using the word "God" or "Jesus."
Lets just focus here on who we are pleasing when we choose to believe what we want to believe instead of what is. OURSELVES. The whole concept of Faith in Christ requires a sacrifice of self in service and worship of the one who sacrificed his life for YOU!
Ask yourself this, What are the characteristics of your "Higher Power?" Where did they come from?
If you answered something like, I can just "feel" it... or Imagined it... Then perhaps you have never had your "feelings" lead you astray. I'd argue to say we've all experienced our feelings telling lies at some point.
If you don't believe that Jesus died to save us then you wouldn't believe he is worthy of being worshiped. It comes down to this... No matter what you want to call God, Jesus is the only way to him.
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
Calling Jesus "Higher Power" because it feels more comfortable may be where you're at right now, but realize who you are actually speaking to. It's Jesus. The Person of Jesus, who loves and cares for you. Who sacrificed himself for you.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 In an ever changing world when we cling to fleeting feelings, concepts, ideas, things, people, places, experiences. Jesus will stand waiting for you to see him in all his Glory. Glory be to the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
